RECYCLABILITY ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY (RAM) UPDATE

On Monday 28 April PACKUK published the latest version of the Recyclability Assessment Methodology. This is referred to as being version 1.1. The link to the Government’s RAM website page is here. The attached letter from Margaret Bates provides supporting info.

So what  does RAM v1.1 mean for obligated organisations ? The RAM v1.1 is to be used by packaging producers across the UK to assess the recyclability of household packaging placed on the market from 1 January 2025. This is a requirement under the new Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging (pEPR) programme. Only those defined as large producers, that are responsible for?household packaging must report their recyclability assessment data.? Please be aware that the first reporting deadline for this year’s assessment results is 1 October 2025. Applying the RAM and its red/amber/green materials classification correctly is vital for producers to ensure they remain pEPR compliant, and that their reported results enable an accurate level of any necessary material fee modulation from year two of pEPR.
