Welcome to your BPIF Cartons March Newsletter! At the moment, it's all about the new Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) that comes into effect on 1 April 2022, so please find an update on this below. We also have some great activities and events to get involved in. |
PLASTIC PACKAGING TAX (PPT) UPDATE |
We are now less than a month away from the implementation of the Plastic Packaging Tax on 1 April 2022. To help members understand the implications of the Tax on the Carton industry, I will be holding a Breakfast Briefing at 9am on Monday 14 March. If you would like to join me then please sign up for the webinar here. |
The BPIF has also arranged an exclusive webinar with HMRC at 10am on Thursday 10 March to hear first hand from HMRC as to how the tax will operate and what businesses need to do to comply with their legal requirements. If you would like to attend then please sign up here. There is a dedicated area on the BPIF website relating to PPT and a helpline as well. Please send any specific questions that you may have to the following email address ppthelp@bpif.org.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible. There is also a very useful link below to the HMRC website with consolidated information on PPT. You can view this by clicking here. |
Due to the continuing delays in the response to the EPR consultation which closed last June, it is not surprising that Defra have announced that the existing PRN system will now continue for the whole of 2023 rather than EPR being phased in during 2023. For full details of the correspondence from Defra please click here. |

We will keep you informed of the revised timescales when known. |
