Centre of Excellence Bursary Winners Announced
Curtis Packaging are one of the UK’s leading companies designing and producing high quality printed folding cartons, specializing in the retail, beauty and luxury markets.
We are strong advocates for investing in the future and what better place to start than embarking on a search for the next graphic designer the luxury brands will be fighting over or the constructional designer that blows away the team with their amazing vision.
In September 2017 we launched the Centre of Excellence with two Bursaries, one focusing on graphics and the other constructional design. We pitched to Universities and College’s to support us on this quest.
The construction bursary was to create a high-quality pack to be used within the beauty or luxury food sector, which would consider presentation of the products and safe transit to store. Graphic application was to be part of the brief with supporting information.
The graphics brief was to look at how customers interact with the packaging, the look, touch and feel and to create a real “wow” factor giving impactful shelf presence. This was to be reflected with their design. Again, supporting information and reasoning was to be supplied with the entry.
We had an amazing response for our first year with several well thought out and mature ideas put forward. These were shortlisted and reviewed by our panel of judges from The Bodyshop, Foilco, 3D Creative and Billerudkorsnas.
On Friday the 16th March 2018 Karin Chan was announced as the winner of the construction bursary and Michael Morton the graphics bursary. They visited Curtis Packaging in Redhill, Surrey along with their tutors to meet the panel of judges. Sales Director Steve Mallett, took the students and tutors on a guided tour of the manufacturing facility explaining the countless disciplines behind the production of quality printed cartons.
The winners were presented with their cheques and their designs were brought to life by our award winning creative studio with a fully mocked up sample of the entries complete with foil blocking.
